Star Wars Bracket - The selection committee got this all wrong, by the way. You could have easily added another 32 characters to this bracket. Also, there are a couple notable snubs to me like Admiral “It’s a Trap!” Ackbar and a common Imperial Stormtrooper. And by God, you should not have to choose between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo in the second round or between R2-D2 and C-3PO in the first. In my bracket, which I am tempted to make, R2-D2 and C-3PO would be in opposite regions. ANYWAY…

Browsing Facebook this evening I learned of the latest shootings in small villages in upstate New York - through the personal account of an old friend whom I worked with in a counseling center.

When we worked together, we were good friends and shared a deep commitment to helping the young charges in our care. Most of them had miserable upbringings filled with abuse, neglect, and other mistreatment.

I haven’t seen my friend in many years, although I often think about the conversations we had about life and personal growth. My friend dealt with her own share of obstacles growing up, but they never prevented her from pursuing her goals or bettering herself.

Today’s advice comes from one of those conversations and in light of the latest shooting.

“Just because you were treated poorly or hurt in the past doesn’t give you an excuse to treat others poorly or hurt others in the present. You have a choice to do good things.”

It’s her creed. Why can’t we all just be good to each other?

Today, there was white smoke in the air. Whether you were interested or not, we found out the new Pope is Argentinean Jorge Bergoglio. We also found out that he loves the footy, thanks to the almighty power of the internet.

As Dirty Tackle explains, “The Buenos Aires club wasted no time in promoting that fact via their Twitter account, sharing an undated picture of Pope Francis holding up the San Lorenzo crest and a scan of his club membership card (both below), which shows that he’s been a member since 2008. San Lorenzo also count actor Viggo Mortensen among their biggest supporters.”

It’s also worth noting that the Pope’s beloved club is totally predictable. I mean, San Lorenzo were named after a local priest (Father Lorenzo Massa), because he welcomed children to play football in his church’s yard, so they wouldn’t have to do so with the danger in the street.

That’s according to a team at the Vermont Complex Systems Center, who posted their new analysis of 10 million geotagged tweets to to arXiv.org. They call their creation a “hedonometer.”

Could Dave Chappelle make another return?

A surprise appearance at New York City’s Comedy Cellar has sparked another round of speculation that the beloved, and reclusive, comedian could make a return to the standup circuit with a joint tour with Chris Rock.

In jeans, a white long-sleeve T-shirt and black jacket, his hands frequently reaching for the cigarettes he’s known to chain-smoke, Chappelle captivated the audience, many of them aspiring comedians. And during an exchange with Rock, he made news when he joked about the two of them doing a long-rumored tour together.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for the “Chappelle Show” return that will probably never, ever happen.
