It’s time for your WILL to surpass your SKILL.

An inside look at a life on the edge of bliss
I believe I live my life a certain way, and find that people don’t necessarily understand what I’m doing or why I do it. The explanation is simple, I devote considerable time every day indulging in the things I love. It’s a routine I’ve crafted over the years that’s been adapted to the advances in technology. The routine looks something like this:
Everyday I wake up...

Football (soccer ball) lost in Japanese tsunami... →
I love this story for several reasons:
1. When I was younger, my parents insisted I put my name on my sports equipment so it could find its way back to me if lost - even if it was lost in a natural disaster. Props to the 16-year old for listening to his wise Japanese parents (which I also have and I am constantly feel baffled about how frequently their advice rings true as an adult.) This is the...

Liverpool FC finds the target about as well as...
Liverpool FC has scored 40 goals on 457 shots (187 on target). That amounts to an 8.8% conversion rate. In other words:
If Imperial Stormtroopers are shooting at fleeing members of the Rebel Alliance with their blaster rifles, they would kill 88 out of 1000 Rebels, and wound up to 389.
At that rate, 4 out 5 Rebels shot by Imperial Stormtroopers would survive.
Better improve the accuracy.
Case...

There IS something to watch on TV...
My family vacated the house today, so I had the option to stay home and enjoy whatever programming I wanted. I usually don’t watch too much TV, but these programs were on the agenda:
Champions League Semi-Final leg 1, Barcelona at Chelsea. I thought Barcelona would win, and was genuinely surprised that Chelsea held them scoreless. The second leg at the Nou Camp Tuesday will be interesting....

BUENA SUERTE DAN!! I have all the confidence in the world in you. No worries, my friend. You will rock this.
I ran through three separate practice tests. Strangely enough, the quantitative material I do best at is the Geometry section. I took Geometry as a freshman…in high school (14 years ago.)...

We all know what an awesome father Vader is. These illustrations show Vader in a different light, one where he isn’t the embodiment of evil.

callouslycasual replied to your post: Lowsy stat of the day
But DAN! You are 730 for 730 in awesomest guy of the day. (Two years. See what I did there?)
You’re setting a high standard for my awesomeness, I am not sure how I can sustain such a streak. On the other hand, if Cal Ripken Jr. can be awesome for 2632 consecutive games then I don’t see why I can’t be awesome for just as...

The Story of Section 148, Row 25, Seats 1-6
There is a happy ending to this story.
My trivia team meets at the same bar every Tuesday for Trivia Night. We have won the grand prize the past two “seasons” by being the first team to accumulate 500 points. Our second triumph occurred two Tuesdays ago and as a reward for our prolonged excellence, we earned six tickets to the April 11 Colorado Rockies game in Section 148, Row 25,...

Friend Mythos: How Bell’s Beard Saved the Platypus...
Bell hiked along the craggy outcrop lined with giant fir trees on his way to stream, coursing through the countryside. Bell had a massive red beard, that was down to his knees. The beard was hardly cumbersome, as Bell would routinely use his beard to protect himself from the harshness of the elements, lest he succumb to exposure. On this spring day, Bell made his way to the stream to fish. As he...

Friend Mythos
As I made myself a snack, I suddenly felt compelled to write stories about my friends in a mythological context. I’m not exactly sure why, aside from the fact that I’ve done just that through various, intermittent text messages over the years.
A recent conversation with a friend of mine also sent this idea into overdrive. My friend has a gnarly red beard, and it reminds me of someone...

Fight the power!!
Fighting to purge the world of arrogance would be a worthy yet overwhelming battle, like trying to end world poverty. Certainly the world could do with less arrogance (and less poverty for that matter) but the mind-blowing quantities that exist ensure a complicated and difficult solution. If...

That Guy is always trying to make a point...
Most weekends I work at a baseball or softball game for my internship. This weekend I operated the scoreboard, keeping track of runs and counting balls and strikes. I did this for four games, sitting in a cheap camp chair in the 80 degree Colorado sunshine. Anyone could get used to this, trust me. Alas, my idyllic existence was disturbed by another member of the game day staff who could only be...
